In His Time: Trusting God Through Every Season
Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I
have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He
has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the
human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I
know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good
while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and
drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of
God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure
forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so
that people will fear him.
15 Whatever is has already
been,
and what will be has been before;
and God will call the past to account.
As I read these verses, I was reminded that God’s timing is perfect—even when it doesn’t feel that way. That truth hit home for me.
This morning
before I went to class, I grabbed my Bible and flipped through asking God to
give me advice. I was in the still quietness of my car just enjoying our time
together when he led me to this chapter.
Life often presents
us with challenges that leave us questioning their purpose. We are not God, and
for that, I am grateful. It's natural to experience uncertainty and anxiety
about what lies ahead. Yet, the Creator of the universe guides us, shaping our
journeys with intention. While He may occasionally redirect our paths, we are
all striving to follow the course He has set for us.
The mystery of time.
I've lost count of how
many times I've found myself asking, "Why did I have to experience
that?" or "What was their reason for doing that, Lord?" over the
past few months.
This season of my life has
opened up numerous avenues for growth, though it can often feel messy and
unenjoyable. In those challenging moments, I find myself seeking solace at the
feet of Jesus, asking, "What do you want me to learn during this time,
Lord?" There is always a lesson waiting to be discovered; we simply need
to pause, sit quietly, and listen. If we speak too loudly, we may miss the
gentle whispers of guidance. God is ready to respond and impart valuable
insights, but we must be willing to humble ourselves and acknowledge our own
shortcomings.
Throughout this season,
I've discovered the importance of showing compassion, extending grace,
embracing humility, and ultimately surrendering my heart to reflect Jesus, even when my instincts urge me to act
otherwise. I often find myself needing to set aside my own desires, recognizing
that I can sometimes react more like Peter than Paul, a realization I'm working
on with God. He has shown me that my emotions can be intense, and I sometimes
let them lead instead of listening for His guidance. There have been countless
moments when I’ve felt the Holy Spirit urging me to pause, reminding me to
think before I speak or send a message, often catching myself just in time.
Occasionally, a bumblebee appears as a gentle reminder to be still and trust
that everything is under His control. I truly appreciate the unique ways He
communicates with me.
I feel immense gratitude for his guidance on
my journey. He understands that in every season of life, rather than succumbing
to frustration and complaints, we should reflect on the lessons he is trying to
impart at that moment. It's essential for all of us to remain receptive to his
shaping of our lives, even when the process feels challenging.
So wherever you are in your season, take heart—God is shaping you for something beautiful. There truly is a time for everything, and He makes it all beautiful in its time.
