More Than a Word: The Power of Your Name

Upon entering the world, our parents choose names for us, often with meaningful intentions behind their selections. My name is Sarah, chosen by my parents who desired a biblical connection. In the scriptures, God transformed Sarai, meaning "my princess," into Sarah, which also means "princess." However, I’ve never quite identified with the term "princess," feeling more distinct from that image. I often tease my sister, Diana, about her name; she was born during a time when the world was captivated by Princess Diana of Wales. Ironically, she shares a name with a hurricane, which is amusing because, in our younger years, a "hurricane" would have been a fitting description for me, while "princess" would have suited her perfectly.

While preparing for the women’s conference in January, I found myself seeking God’s guidance amidst some uncertainties. During my prayer time, I turned to my devotional—and that’s when it hit me. The devotional I was reading referred to me as a princess, reminding me that I’m a noble woman of God and a warrior for the Most High King. I couldn’t help but exclaim, "WHAAT?!" It really shook me. For the first time, I truly felt the profound significance of my name—realizing that the King of Kings was calling me personally.

I always thought nobility was reserved for royalty—those born into power. It never occurred to me that being noble could also reflect high moral principles and values. While I was contemplating this, I decided to look up the meaning of my name once more, and once again, it revealed associations with preciousness and nobility. In that moment of reflection, it struck me profoundly. I am a princess, with royal blood coursing through my veins, for the King of Kings calls me His own, redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb. Thank you, Jesus, whose name, Yeshua, signifies God's Salvation.

My parents made a wise choice in naming me Sarah, as every name holds a special significance in the eyes of God. If you haven't explored the meaning behind your own name, I highly recommend it. It's clear that our names carry profound meaning and importance in God's eyes. Moreover, God transformed many names for the better, highlighting their significance even further.

I believe Sarah is a perfect match for me, while Diana suits my sister exceptionally well. The term doesn't imply being a hurricane; rather, it signifies a trailblazer and a leader, which truly resonates with her character.

Our names carry more significance than we often realize. They reflect identity, purpose, and even divine calling. I encourage you to explore the meaning of your own name—you might be surprised by the beautiful truth it reveals about who God says you are.
